Guys! Thank you so much for these comments. I am currently keeping this gin joint at 70° and it is -3 outside! I drank 3 cups of coffee at 5PM so it's going to be a late night, but encouraged by your kind words. That is my personal fuel to keep writing, when someone tells me it mattered. Thank you so much, it's a very generous thing to do for a person
A lovely comforting read. I am hunkered down but of course not quite as bare bones, but still, finding comfort in a fire, some reading, good food, art, music. Enjoy reading of your experience you relate it so well.
Thank you from my modest Whidbey Island home. I agree with you that things will be okay. As individuals from every segment in America slowly become alerted to the character of those who would choose our future, we become united. Brothers and sisters willing to defend the other. Americans are imbued with a river of individuality that is bolstered by our own myth, propaganda if you will that we get to chose. To try to take our choice is their biggest mistake. The authoritarians don’t intend to do the work, they want to snatch it, unearned, from someone else’s hands.
First of all, there is nothing so satisfying as a good woodstove, an ample supply of wood, and a warm fire in a deep winter storm. As I currently live in a hot desert, I can only experience these things vicariously. Thanks for facilitating that. But thanks even more for the words of encouraging hope, a comfort to our worried minds. You are a blessing and I wish you every happiness as you move forward!
I feel you, I’m inspired by you, I am proud of you, even though I don’t know you…
You make me miss my off grid cabin life more than I already do!
The pleasure of scuttling out from under the warm covers, into the freezing air of another Vermont winter morning, to light the wood stove & snuggle in close with my daily mug or two of mate tea with lemon and honey, waiting for the place to get so hot I’d have to open the windows…
I do miss it, a lot.
And - I’d be dishonest if I didn’t admit that a part of me really doesn’t want to be THAT cold again…or for 7 months out of the year…. I am worried I am turning pretty wimpy here in Northern AZ, where I have just been ‘blessed’ with my first sunburn of the year. In February!! 🥴And feeling sorry for myself that sweater season is already coming to an end. Speak about privilege 🫣🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Your writing, always from your strong heart and soul, is especially evocative here. Thank you for these words. My mini farm here isn't as remote or self-sufficient, but it is all I need for keeping my soul healthy.

Beautiful. Just what I needed to read and take to heart this morning.

It was the same temperature in my "pod room" this morning before I got up to light the fire. :)
I like to think (hope) that the American people will prevail. Sending fortitude from the Frozen North.
"Stagnation is a fantasy for the depressed. We make up stillness when we feel paralyzed." Too true.
It is so comforting and empowering to hear this story. Thank you
Expecting windchills of -35 here today. Your words are a balm, thank you. ❤️🔥
This may be the most optimistic thing I've read all season. Thank you.
