Jenna, I so strongly encourage you to submit this wonderful essay to Oldster Magazine. I think they would love it! And thank you for the lovely firefly imagery. They are my joy in Virginia too at this time of year.

I think publishing it here disqualifies it! But appreciate the encouragement.

Fireflies are magical. I have experienced the fireflies in the Smokies and I love hearing you talk about your viewing. I live in Knoxville and like you when you lived here, my weekends are spent in the mountains... exploring trails, fishing for brook trout or rainbows, or sitting on a rock near the river.

I leave leaf litter under my trees and am lucky to have fireflies in my yard during the summer... watching them dance in the sky, bats flying overhead for mosquitoes and the frogs call out for their mated are my summer nights.

Where in Knoxville! I lived downtown, 4th and Gill, Luttrell Street. I think about Knoxville all the time, it's a truly magical place and I love the size of the city, the academic history and college culture (not so much football I mean speakers and writers, but GO VOLS) and feel I was lucky to live there when I did. You're lucky!

I love the 4th and Gill area. I live in South Knoxville currently in an older neighborhood and grew up in West Knoxville. Some areas have really changed since you lived here... Broadway and Central have several new restaurants and breweries as well as coffee shops.

It's Great High Mountain by Jack White, off the Cold Mountain Soundtrack, which you would absolutely adore.
