Thank you, everyone, for the kind words. Friday is currently resting and she is leaking from her stitches, but changing the bandages every few hours and will call my vet in the morning to get it looked at, I think she just needs some stitches redone.
Hard to believe it's been 10 years since I read the first post you ever wrote about this dog! Literally crying right now because I just went through my own emergency ordeal with Beebe just a few months back and I know full-well the terror and panic that comes with having your partner--your everything--in such a precarious position.
So glad it turned out to be an affordable fix, and looking forward to more Friday-stories and pics coming soon.
Your story made me weep, first in fear for the possible ending, and then in joyful relief at your happy news. We always want just a little more time with our fur kids, and as the mom of a 6 year old male Border Collie who is really the Center of my universe, the story really hit home for me. May your Friday and my Tucker continue to ride herd on us for many more years to come. Thanks for sharing!
Oh Jenna, I' m so glad Friday is recovering! Having gone through a similar emergency with my sweet Duma dog back in 2021, I know that emotional barrage of going from "about to lose your longtime best friend" to "maybe there's hope for another 3 months if you have a ton of cash" to "surgery was successful, no signs of cancer" ... We had him for another 3.5 years after that, and I was grateful for every single day. Give Friday many many hugs and kisses for me!
Beautiful to have a place to write about that kind of love. It's heartbreaking even to contemplate losing it. I lost my 8 month old joyful German Shepherd puppy to sepsis after an acute, unexplained bacterial infection. It tore me up, for years. I left after 5 days of veterinary intensive care with a $13,000 bill that I couldn't pay and no dog to go home with me. Took me four years to get another pup. Luck is fickle. Sometimes it's with you. Sometimes not.
i’m so so sorry. I can’t imagine I will be getting another dog again after Friday passes until I am more stable, I hope your pup is healthy for years and years to come
I have thought a lot about veterinary care and human medical care in the ensuing years (we seem to be less financially stable the older we get and medical debt is a part of that). My daughter is an athletic trainer in Wyoming where there are still non-corporate veterinarians and she has experienced her human student athletes getting x-rays from vets they know (many live on ranches) and bringing them to her (which she tells them she is not qualified to read) because human medical care is prohibitively expensive for them. It's an odd time when humans can't afford veterinary care for their pets but veterinary care is cheaper for their children.
I started listening to this post and had to stop lest I burst into tears when Patty showed up at the vet's office. I'm glad I finished reading the post and that Friday is on the mend.
Oh Jenna! I was so scared for you reading this!! I had a dog with pyometria too and it was the ER situation so I know how terrifying that is. Great big hugs and am SO realized Friday is resting. Sending love and light your way!!
Happy tears that she is home! My cat just put me through the ringer, and I can't believe that there are no payment options at the Emergency Vets... Especially when their prices are so high and they're telling you come up with the money or they'll die... I'm thankful the universe and your friends were surrounding you both with Love and Light and that Friday is home where she should be.
So wonderful! I am so very happy for you both! So grateful you had the support of wonderful friends and all the medical stars aligned!! Wishing you both a speedy recovery from this experience!!

I wish the same for you!

Dear god, now I am absolutely bawling. I hope she's still doing okay and that the leaking was not an issue.
She’s getting staples this afternoon 🤞
Sending her and you all the good, healing vibes.
So glad Friday is ok. My wife and I have been through similar things many times so I have some idea of the terror it causes. Glad it’s getting better.

Oh my goodness. I just listened and am tearing up. So glad she's still with you.

So happy this all worked out and hope Friday is recovering well. What a scare!
I am so relieved for you and for Friday. Sending many good luck and good healing wishes your way.
