Honestly you and Nadine sound like you want the same thing--just suspended, hanging above the world you're watching for a while. Maybe you're kindred spirits. Gerald, on the other hand, sounds like an ass.

If you click that video linked in the name under Nadine, a spider expert talks about how you can bring them inside for winter and set up a station habitat with a water-witching-looking stick in a pot. I might bring her inside before frost. She is cool.

Oh dang, that's awesome. When I was in high school I had an orb weaver in my bedroom window all one summer; I named him Joe. I know now that Joe was biologically female, but who am I to question someone's gender? So I would bring him bug gifts and clean detritus from his web. Then he died in a massive storm in the fall. I wish I'd known I could save him! Now I always have orb weavers in the garage in the winter and it brings me delight. None of them are as full of personality as Joe, but I still love them.
