I spent a couple hours on the deck this weekend, reading a book in defiance of all the things that “need” to get done. Aren’t we the silliest of creatures, that we have to force ourselves to sit down for a minute?
"It's the remaining. It's the trying. It's the having a place that gives me stakes and purpose every single day."
I wrote down a few lines from this essay, but this one is my favorite. There's such a stigma around settling, staying in your hometown, putting down roots instead of "seeing the world" (as if this isn't also the world), etc., but I really love this way of reframing the value and virtue in doing that work. Cheers to stakes and purpose 💙
This sounds lovely. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I hate recurring injuries...
Here on the outskirts of Atlanta, when we feel too poor to take a beach trip, we have a lake day. I know an almost always empty beach park on our local Big Popular Lake, with a tiny little beach, that's perfect for sunning, swimming, and reading. In all the years of weekday mornings I've been going there, we've seen only a few homeschool moms and their broods drop by for a quick swim.
It’s a tenor! I dont know how to play it traditionally, but I do mess around with it all the time and sing little covers (not well, but it makes me happy) ✨
I thought about putting up my hammock between two trees on the property and today I did it. My husband was inside cleaning the house and I felt no guilt. I watched a pair of birds build a nest. I even took a short nap. It was so glorious.

I think learning about the world and enjoying life can happen anywhere for free, we’re just trained to buy it. Thank you for such kind words
Absolutely ✨️

Love that! State parks are as precious as public libraries!
