Welcome to the Farm!

If you’re one of those people that wishes they could quit their job, buy a farm, and run away to the forest... Well darling, I actually did it.

In 2010 (when I was a respectable graphic designer) I bought 6+ acres and a Civil War Era house for $151k. Two years later I quit my corporate gig to farm and write full time. At no point could you call this endeavor solvent, but it’s the only thing that’s made me happy; living this life and writing about it.

Cold Antler Farm is a publication where pop culture meets agriculture. Here I write about homesteading, fly fishing, falconry, and rural queer life. I also occasionally share recipes, poetry, and fiction—but between those topics are stories about everyday existence on a farm, as well as a series dedicated to helping women figure out who they are. One day I’m writing about first dates, and the next issue a recipe for apple cake. It’s a big time.

This isn’t a newsletter. This isn’t a blog. This is the weekly essay/diary/podcast from a lesbian homesteader trying to live an authentic life in upstate New York. The stakes are high. The farm is teetering on the edge of making it or foreclosure. The writing is raw and earnest. This substack is a collection of working-class prose and poetry, written by someone fighting to keep the home she has spent her life building.

And baby, You’re invited to hear all about it.

This substack delivers an essay with an audio option (for those who prefer to listen, or can’t sit still) So regardless if you’re doing the dishes or walking the dog, I can be in your ear holes talking about everything from hawk training to first girl kisses.

To get every post and other paid subscriber benefits, upgrade to a paid subscription. Why pay? Because this substack’s mission is to save this farm, which hasn’t had a source of steady income since 2012. And besides saving a farm, you’re getting access to more writing and podcast episodes!
