As more of my neighbors and I give up our lawns and let some wild places return to our yards, we are seeing more fireflies, although not in the numbers I remember from my childhood. Thank you for sharing this amazing memory. I’ll think of this now whenever I see fireflies.

They will certainly make a comeback!

What an amazing experience, I had no idea they did this!

In some places! Yes, for a week or two. I'm not sure why or how, but it was magical!

Beautiful, Jenna. No fireflies here on the west coast, but I remember catching them in jars when I’d visit my grandparents in Omaha as a little kid.

Today one of the scrub jays who calls our backyard home (my son named him Bruce Wayne 😂) was chucking seeds from a bird feeder down on to our chickens. Everyone seemed pretty happy about the situation. A little bit of everyday magic. Nothing like the big sync, but I’ll take it. ✨

That sounds lovely! And every area has its own magic!

Wonderful, Jenna. I’m so glad you had that special experience. We have had fireflies in our yard for two or three weeks now and I always enjoy seeing them. No synchronizing, though. 😊

no syncing here either, but sometimes you can pull a car up to a big field and flash the headlights and they flash back, or so I read in a Barbara Kingsolver book once!

That is on my bucket list to see. If you want to see it again, I'm an hour or so east of Gatlinburg.

Wonderful story.

I remember fireflies from my youth, 60-mumble years ago.

And I miss them.

They are still around! and I love 60-mumble, that's what I'm using when someone asks my age. 40mumble
